Vincent AI by vLex Review [2026]
Josh Bertini, Head of Growth•Published
Vincent AI combines access to vLex's legal database with tools for researching legal questions, analyzing and drafting contracts, and comparing document versions. Clio, a legal software company, acquired vLex in 2025. For in-house counsel, the buying question is whether Vincent's coverage and workflows fit the jurisdictions, contracts, and company positions the team handles.
GC AI is our enterprise legal AI software for in-house counsel. As of October 2026, 2,200+ legal teams, including 300+ public companies, use our platform. Our customers include Snyk and Arc’teryx. Our Playbooks and GC AI for Word support reviews against company positions and edits inside the agreement. This review compares Vincent AI with GC AI and explains how to evaluate both using a completed contract negotiation.
Vincent AI Review: Legal Research and Cited Memos
With Vincent AI’s Ask a Research Question, counsel selects a jurisdiction and receives a memo with a short answer, detailed analysis, exceptions or limitations, and supporting authorities.
Counsel can inspect the authorities through links and excerpts. Removing a source from the authority list prompts Vincent to regenerate the memo, which can then be exported to a Word document or a PDF.
For a disputed contractual provision, start with the facts and governing law, review the cited authorities, remove sources that do not fit the question, and save a memo colleagues can review.
Source selection still requires judgment. Excluding an authority because it concerns a different issue is different from excluding an inconvenient case that the advice needs to address. Citation count alone says little about the memo's quality: the analysis needs to explain why an authority matters and address contrary authority.
Jurisdiction Coverage Needs a Closer Look
Vincent offers two separate workflows: 50-State Survey examines a legal question across U.S. states, while Compare Jurisdictions compares the law across selected jurisdictions. These can be relevant when a business operates under several state regimes or counsel needs to compare legal requirements across markets.
Vincent's supported research jurisdictions include the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Singapore, Hong Kong, and several Latin American countries. Its U.S. coverage includes federal and state jurisdictions. Document workflows can analyze uploads from any country, but research coverage depends on the jurisdiction and available sources.
A cross-border team should confirm the jurisdictions, materials, languages, and workflows included in its proposed subscription. An uploaded foreign contract does not, by itself, establish access to the local authorities needed to advise on it.
For compliance work, pair the research question with the relevant company policy and business facts. Counsel can then distinguish a legal requirement from a proposed internal control and explain what needs to change.

Vincent Contract Review, Drafting, and Redline Analysis
Analyze a Contract offers tasks for risk, inconsistent definitions, obligations, negotiation strategy, and fallback positions. Lawyers can add instructions and follow-up questions, then inspect a source quotation or open the document in context.
Company context determines whether those recommendations are appropriate. A supplier's uncapped liability provision may raise a different negotiation question from the same language in a customer agreement. Specify the party represented, the transaction, approved positions, and matters that require escalation. Ask Vincent to separate departures from those positions from drafting ambiguities and questions requiring legal research.
The separate Redline Analysis workflow compares an original and an edited document and explains the changes in a list or table. Generated tables can be exported to Excel or CSV.
Drafting in Vincent and Working in Word
Vincent supports drafting in both its web app and Microsoft Word:
- Legal Pad: Draft alongside research, revise through chat or manual edits, and export to Word or PDF. The workspace is in Live Beta and focuses on substance and structure; final document styling may require work in Word.
- Draft a Contract: Start from instructions or a precedent. Vincent gathers facts, presents an outline for review, and generates a draft that counsel can edit and export to Word. The workflow is in Preview Mode.
Vincent in Word runs through the Clio for Microsoft Word add-in, using Vincent credentials. It can analyze the open document, draft language, and propose native Track Changes for counsel to accept or reject. It supports Word on Windows, Mac, and the web, currently in English (US); mobile is not supported. Vincent in Word is separate from vLex's citation-checking and research add-in.
For a negotiated agreement, examine how accepted recommendations reach the working document, whether formatting and tracked changes survive, and which steps require manual work. Confirm access to the beta and preview features before including them in the evaluation.
Collections and Tables Support Legal Diligence
Vincent's Collections organize contracts, policies, and diligence materials. Vincent Tables turns document analysis into a structured review across that collection.
Users can describe the review goal in plain language, and Vincent Tables builds a structured table across the document set. Completed tables are downloadable, and custom Tables can be saved and shared as templates.
For an acquisition, an illustrative table might cover assignment restrictions, change-of-control provisions, termination rights, and required consents. Counsel must substantiate the findings against the correct agreement and amendments. This supports legal diligence; it does not replace the financial records and analysis needed to assess the transaction.
Document completeness also changes the answer. A clean table is of limited use if the collection omits the amendment that replaced a termination clause. A useful diligence test should include related documents, inconsistent naming, and one intentionally missing attachment. Then check whether the output preserves that uncertainty instead of filling the gap.
Vincent Studio Makes Workflows Reusable
Vincent Studio launched in January 2026 for large law firms and enterprise legal teams. Studio provides a no-code way to build workflows around an organization's processes and standards.
A workflow can pause for clarifying input, such as whether the company is buying or selling or which jurisdiction applies. The team defines the sequence of tasks and the information needed to run them.
Two details deserve attention in an enterprise demo:
- Publication controls: Studio workflows do not require a formal approval step before publication, and vLex recommends internal peer review. Assign someone to approve the content and maintain it as law or company policy changes.
- Available connections: A Docket Alarm integration is in development. Ask to see the required connections working in the proposed deployment.
Confirm which users can publish and whether Studio is included in the quote.
How Much Does Vincent AI Cost?
Vincent offers a demo and trial. Standard subscription prices are not listed on its current public product page, so request a quote specifying:
- Research: Specify access and jurisdictions.
- Workflows: Confirm document workflows and Studio access.
- Users and usage: State seat counts and usage limits.
- Implementation: Include setup and support.
Public packages vary by market. In Spain, vLex lists its Full Tech AI package, including Vincent AI, at €6,780 per year. For a U.S. enterprise purchase, request pricing for the specific research coverage and workflows your team needs. Confirm that the trial includes those capabilities and that they appear in the paid quote.
Vincent Security and Data Retention
vLex reports SOC 2 certification, ISO 27001 compliance, and zero-retention agreements with AI model providers. Review the applicable reports and contractual terms for the Vincent service your team would buy.
Model-provider retention and application retention are separate. For Vincent, conversation logs and files have configurable retention, with a one-year default.
Studio treats Workflow Assets differently: documents stored there remain outside the standard conversation-retention policy and persist until the workflow is deleted. An approved, reusable template and a matter-specific contract therefore need different handling.
The buyer's security review should establish the settings and terms for the Vincent service being purchased, including data location, permitted access, deletion, and the scope of any retained workflow materials.
How GC AI Compares to Vincent AI for In-House Work
Both GC AI and Vincent support legal research and drafting, including work inside Word. For counsel who negotiate in Word, compare how each product turns company instructions into review checks and proposed edits, and how easily counsel can inspect the supporting analysis.
Cecilia Ziniti, our co-founder and a three-time general counsel, experimented with early language models at Replit for work including demand letters and agreement review. She left in 2023 and co-founded GC AI with Bardia Pourvakil. That experience is relevant here because this review focuses on how legal teams carry company positions into contract review and drafting.
| Reader Priority | Vincent | Why We Recommend GC AI |
|---|---|---|
| Carry a Contract Position Into the Working Draft | Vincent in Word analyzes and drafts in the active agreement, with proposed edits shown as native Track Changes. Legal Pad and Draft a Contract also support drafting and Word export; they remain in Live Beta and Preview Mode, respectively. | Our Playbooks apply company review standards. GC AI for Word supports drafting and redlining inside the agreement, giving counsel a way to review proposed changes where they negotiate. |
| Inspect the U.S. Authorities Behind the Advice | Ask a Research Question produces cited memos with source links and excerpts. Vincent also supports state surveys and jurisdiction comparisons. | Our US Case Law feature supports opinion research alongside contract review and drafting. The Opinion Reader lets counsel inspect full decisions before approving the advice. |
| Reuse the Company's Negotiated Positions | Studio builds reusable workflows, and Tables supports shared extraction templates. Draft a Contract can use the team's precedents. | Our Playbook Builder Agent uses templates, negotiated agreements, and policy guidance to develop review checks. Counsel can inspect and refine those checks before reuse. |
Hayley McAllister, Senior Counsel and Head of Commercial Legal at Jasper, described how GC AI for Word became part of her contract workflow:
Once the Word plugin rolled out, I pretty much exclusively started using it for all of my redlining and contract review.
Hayley's workflow includes targeted redlines and comments explaining Jasper's positions to business colleagues. Include that second deliverable in your evaluation: can counsel turn an approved position into contract language and a clear explanation for the business owner?
Our Research agents investigate legal questions in parallel and reconcile their findings into cited analysis. With US Case Law, counsel can open full opinions to inspect the reasoning behind a proposed position. Verify critical citations independently; treatment information is not available for every case.
For portfolio work, our Contract Intelligence provides source-linked extraction and Current Terms, which connects agreements and amendments to identify the terms in force. Compare that result with Vincent Tables when the difficult part is reconciling the contract package across many suppliers.
GC AI Individual costs $500 per month; Team pricing is available on request. Team and Enterprise plans include one legal database of your choice, US Case Law or International Law, with both available as an add-on. Individual seats can add either database. Confirm Contract Intelligence pricing and inclusion separately. Before evaluating either capability in a trial, confirm that access is enabled.
Compare Vincent and GC AI Using a Completed Contract Negotiation
To compare how Vincent and GC AI handle research, contract review, and drafting, use a completed supplier contract renewal as a test case. The comparison below is a suggested buyer test, not a report of hands-on comparative testing. Give both platforms the same sanitized documents and substantive instructions, and record which features are enabled.
The input package should contain the signed agreement, amendments, proposed renewal, approved negotiation positions, and a short factual brief. Keep counsel's resolved issue list separate as the answer key.
Reconcile the Operative Contract
Ask for a source-linked issue table covering changes to the renewal, departures from approved positions, notice dates, and missing documents. Identify the governing agreement or amendment for each finding.
Compare the table with counsel's resolved issue list. Record missed amendments, incorrect references, and unsupported recommendations.
Verify and Refine a Cited Research Memo
Choose a real issue from the contract negotiation under the specified governing law. Request a cited memo addressing supporting and contrary authority.
Counsel should open the material authorities and check whether the reasoning addresses the contract and business facts. If an irrelevant source affects the answer, use the platform's supported controls or follow-up instructions to refine it. Check that the revised analysis still addresses contrary authority.
Prepare the Clause and Business Advice
Use verified findings to propose contract language and a recommendation for the business owner. State the preferred position, acceptable fallback, and any unresolved exception requiring a decision.
Counsel approves the draft and advice before circulation. Compare the revisions, formatting, tracked changes, and manual steps needed to produce a usable negotiation document.
Measure What the Team Can Reuse
Save approved review checks, extraction templates, or workflow instructions using each platform's supported features. Keep matter-specific facts separate from company standards.
Measure missed issues, incorrect references, unnecessary escalations, drafting corrections, and total lawyer review time, including setup and configuration. Weigh those results alongside coverage, security requirements, and the full quoted cost.
When We Recommend GC AI
We recommend GC AI for teams that want to turn company playbooks into repeatable contract review checks and carry those positions into drafting and redlining. Our Playbooks and GC AI for Word support that work, with counsel responsible for the final language and advice.
Vincent deserves consideration when access to its research collection across your required jurisdictions is central to the purchase.
For a GC AI demo, bring a renewal, your approved positions, and one issue that needs legal research. Ask to see the proposed redline and the explanation counsel would give the business, then compare the review work against your completed negotiation. The demo below introduces GC AI contract review and proposed edits in Word.
