Common questions

What is the GC AI MCP server?
MCP (the Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that hosts like ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor use to call external tools. The GC AI MCP server implements it at https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp, so an assistant in any of those hosts can work in your GC AI account. The MCP tools surface map lists all 20 tools.
Do I need an API key?
No. The server signs you in with your GC AI account through a standard OAuth flow. Requests run as you, so the assistant sees exactly what you can see in GC AI and nothing more.
Does my organization need to turn it on?
Yes. The MCP server is off by default, and an org admin turns it on under Settings, API. You can add the server before that; its tools tell you to ask your admin until it is on.
Is the MCP server in beta?
Yes. The MCP server is in public beta. It is open to use and still being refined, so tools and behavior may change.
Should I use the MCP server or the REST API?
Use MCP when an AI agent does the work. For a backend integration or script, use the GC AI REST API instead. The two cover the same ground.
Is there a separate MCP server for the docs?
Yes. The docs MCP server is a read-only server with no sign-in that searches the GC AI documentation. Use it to help an agent build an integration; use https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp to work in your account.
Where is the Claude plugin?
The GC AI plugin for Claude bundles the MCP connection with skills for asking GC AI, organizing a matter and reviewing a document. Find it, and GC AI's other public repositories, on GitHub.
