Litigation Workflows

Use your case materials to assess exposure, prepare litigation documents, and report to leadership. Explore six workflows using your complaints, evidence, templates, and company positions.

Assess Initial Exposure

Give leadership an initial view of the company's exposure and options. Provide the complaint, available case facts, and company positions, and GC AI drafts a leadership summary and legal assessment covering potential defenses, exposure scenarios, defense-cost assumptions, and next steps. Counsel verifies the record, deadlines, and assumptions before choosing a response.

Prepare Litigation Hold Notices

Analyze a complaint, demand letter, or investigation notice to identify relevant custodians, data sources, documents, communications, and third-party records. Draft internal and vendor litigation hold notices, propose recipient lists with supporting rationale, and organize preservation materials in Projects. Use Skills to standardize notices and Automations to support recurring custodian reviews and preservation updates.

Analyze Discovery and Case Materials

Use Contract Intelligence to analyze pleadings, discovery responses, deposition transcripts, contracts, and other case materials for admissions, inconsistencies, missing evidence, recurring themes, and support for claims or defenses. A Vault accepts PDF, Word, and plain-text files; use chat or a Project for email files and other supported materials. Link the collection to a Project to work with matter-specific strategy and instructions.

Prepare Depositions, Hearings, and Trial Materials

Build witness files, deposition outlines, examination plans, and exhibit lists from the case record. Summarize prior testimony, identify inconsistencies and impeachment material, map evidence to the required legal elements, and draft questions for witnesses and experts. Use the same source materials to prepare hearing briefs and trial documents.

Research and Draft Litigation Documents

Research claims, defenses, procedural requirements, evidentiary issues, and remedies for the relevant jurisdiction. Use the case record, controlling authority, company positions, and approved templates to draft or revise pleadings, motions, briefs, demand letters, discovery requests, responses, and settlement materials. Counsel checks the sources and final work before use.

Prepare Litigation Status Reports

Keep leadership and the board current on case exposure, budgets, and decisions. Use matter records, deadline and budget information, outside counsel updates, exposure assessments, and settlement positions to prepare a report identifying business decisions and missing updates. Use Skills for consistent reporting, Projects for supporting records, and Automations for recurring drafts.

AI Litigation Assessment: Review a TCPA Example

Review the original prompt, clarifying questions, and cited assessment for a sample TCPA complaint. The example identifies gaps in the supplied record that counsel must resolve before relying on deadlines or exposure estimates.

Questions About Using GC AI for Litigation

How Does GC AI Handle Confidential Litigation Materials?
GC AI documents its confidentiality, retention, data-handling, and security practices in its Data Processing Agreement, and its Trust Center provides more information about its security practices. Organizations can limit sharing to specific team members or user groups and set permission levels for Projects and other content.
How Does Using GC AI for Litigation Affect Privilege?
Apply your established privilege and work-product protocols to the materials and outputs you use in GC AI. Limit access to matter personnel, configure Project and content permissions carefully, identify privileged materials where appropriate, and review outputs before sharing them outside the privileged group. Privilege determinations remain fact-specific, and the legal team retains responsibility for how materials and outputs are used and disclosed.
How Can I Verify Factual Statements and Legal Authorities?
GC AI can cite uploaded case materials and provide previews of the supporting text. Users can select a citation to navigate to the cited passage in the source document. GC AI can also search and analyze U.S. court opinions and provide cited answers grounded in primary authority. Counsel should open the cited passages, check the relevant facts, and confirm that the authority supports the proposition before relying on the draft.
Can GC AI Follow Our Existing Litigation Templates and Practices?
Yes. Users can provide approved templates, prior work product, outside counsel guidelines, reporting formats, and matter-specific instructions. Teams can create reusable Skills and Project instructions for recurring workflows such as case assessments, litigation holds, deposition outlines, and status reports.
Can GC AI Help Us Work With Outside Counsel?
Yes. Teams can use Projects to organize matter materials, instructions, and prior work, then prepare counsel briefing packets, questions, status-report drafts, and summaries of advice or action items. Project sharing can be limited to specified collaborators with permission levels chosen by the team.
Does Contract Intelligence Work on Documents Other Than Contracts?
Yes. Contract Intelligence can analyze collections of pleadings, discovery responses, deposition transcripts, and other case materials in supported formats. Use PDF, Word, or plain-text files in a Vault; email files can be reviewed in chat or a Project. Litigation teams use it to find admissions, inconsistencies, and support for claims and defenses across the record, then link the collection to a Project to work alongside matter strategy.
