In-house legal teams rely on playbooks every day. They reflect preferred positions, fallback terms, and escalation rules. Over time, they shape how contracts are reviewed and negotiated across the organization.
In practice, those standards are not always applied consistently. Guidance can be spread across documents, prior agreements, and individual experience. As contract volume increases and teams remain lean, reviews can take longer and outcomes can vary.
GC AI Playbooks are designed to help with that.
Playbooks is a new capability in GC AI that helps legal teams apply their contract review standards more consistently across agreements, with Playbooks created and managed in GC AI and run directly inside Microsoft Word.
Turning established standards into repeatable review
Contract review depends on judgment. It requires understanding what is acceptable, when fallback positions apply, and when a provision needs escalation.
GC AI Playbooks allow teams to capture these standards in a structured way and apply them across contracts. Legal teams configure Playbooks in the GC AI web app, defining preferred positions, fallback terms, and guidance. Once a Playbook is set up, it can be run directly against contracts in Word.
When a Playbook is applied, GC AI reviews the agreement against those standards, highlights areas that need attention, and suggests language aligned with the playbook. This helps reduce time spent re-evaluating standard issues, and allows in-house teams to focus more of their attention on matters that require deeper review.
“Customizing Playbooks to reflect our preferred language and fallback positions has transformed how we review contracts. Within days we saw turnaround times improve and the quality of our output elevate, giving us more time for strategic work.”
Brandon Bailey, VP - Legal & Corporate Services, RainFocus.
Two ways to get started
To help teams get value quickly during the Customer Preview, customers can choose from two complementary approaches.
First, GC AI Playbooks provide ready-to-use playbooks for agreements most in-house legal teams review every day, including NDAs, DPAs, and MSAs for software and commercial use cases. These playbooks work immediately and can be used as provided or customized to reflect company-specific standards.
For teams that want to customize quickly, we are also offering Playbooks classes. These are designed to help users understand how to use Playbooks, as well as how to tailor them to their organization’s standards.
Second, Easy Playbooks support teams that want to bring their own materials. Legal teams can upload an existing playbook and GC AI will convert into a structured Playbook that can be reused across future reviews.
Designed to support teams as they scale
Playbooks can be updated over time as positions evolve or as new issues arise. Playbooks can also be shared across teams so that reviewers are working from the same guidance.
For organizations with more complex requirements, GC AI is also introducing services to support custom implementation and other support needs. These services, delivered by GC AI’s Solutions Attorney team, are intended to help teams design, build, or refine playbooks as part of a broader rollout, working alongside internal legal teams.
