# GC AI MCP Server: Connect GC AI to ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor

> The GC AI MCP server lets an AI assistant work in your GC AI account. Connect it in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or any MCP client to search your files, run playbooks and ask legal questions, all as you.

## Use GC AI from ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor.

The GC AI MCP server lets an AI assistant work directly in your GC AI account. Connect it once, and the assistant can search your files, run playbooks, ask legal questions grounded in your files, and organize projects and skills, all as you.

## What the assistant can do

- **Ask GC AI** — Ask a legal question or run a task grounded in your files, playbooks and skills, then save the chat into your GC AI history.
- **Files** — Upload documents, wait for them to finish processing, and search across everything you can access.
- **Projects** — Create and update projects, and attach or detach files to group work around a matter.
- **Playbooks** — List, create and update review playbooks, and run one against uploaded files to get structured check results.
- **Skills** — List, create and update reusable instructions the assistant can apply on demand.
- **Every tool** — 20 tools in all, each with its inputs and outputs documented.

## Connect in a few minutes

- **ChatGPT** — In a plan that supports connectors, add a new connector with the URL https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp, sign in to GC AI, then enable the tools you want.
- **Claude** — Open Customize, then Connectors, and search the connectors directory for GC AI. Or add a custom connector pointing at https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp.
- **Cursor** — Add a server named gc-ai with the URL https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp to your MCP configuration. Cursor opens the GC AI sign-in on first use.
- **Any MCP client** — Any client that supports remote servers over HTTP with OAuth can connect to https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp. There is no API key: you sign in to GC AI and every request runs as you.

## Common questions

### What is the GC AI MCP server?

MCP (the Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that hosts like ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor use to call external tools. The GC AI MCP server implements it at https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp, so an assistant in any of those hosts can work in your GC AI account. The [MCP tools surface map](https://docs.gc.ai/api-reference/mcp/surface-map) lists all 20 tools.

### Do I need an API key?

No. The server signs you in with your GC AI account through a standard OAuth flow. Requests run as you, so the assistant sees exactly what you can see in GC AI and nothing more.

### Does my organization need to turn it on?

Yes. The MCP server is off by default, and an org admin turns it on under Settings, API. You can add the server before that; its tools tell you to ask your admin until it is on.

### Is the MCP server in beta?

Yes. The MCP server is in public beta. It is open to use and still being refined, so tools and behavior may change.

### Should I use the MCP server or the REST API?

Use MCP when an AI agent does the work. For a backend integration or script, use the [GC AI REST API](https://docs.gc.ai/api-reference/introduction) instead. The two cover the same ground.

### Is there a separate MCP server for the docs?

Yes. The [docs MCP server](https://docs.gc.ai/mcp) is a read-only server with no sign-in that searches the GC AI documentation. Use it to help an agent build an integration; use https://app.gc.ai/api/mcp to work in your account.

### Where is the Claude plugin?

The [GC AI plugin for Claude](https://github.com/GC-AI-Inc/gc-ai-claude-plugin) bundles the MCP connection with skills for asking GC AI, organizing a matter and reviewing a document. Find it, and GC AI's other public repositories, on [GitHub](https://github.com/GC-AI-Inc).
